  1. Course Admission Criteria. (To include an informal meeting / telephone conversation)
Completion of a pre-course document to determine your aims and objectives. You can call to discuss developing these, and you may well build upon them during the programme.

NLP Practitioner training is frequently referred to as being “transformative”, and for good reason. It is, and produces enhanced understanding and amazing insights into how we do what we do, how and why we have done what we have done, and most importantly, how we can go about achieving that which we seek to achieve in the future.

During an NLP training course, trainees may find themselves in a vulnerable situation where painful and potentially difficult material may be revealed which needs handling in a caring and sensitive manner. It must be made clear beforehand that the objective of the training course is learning and not ongoing personal therapy. Admission to Kochin NLP Practitioner training is subject to either 1-2-1 meeting or a pre-course telephone call to ensure the course content is suitable to your needs and outcomes and as importantly, that Kochin trainers / facilitators have the necessary skills / facilities to meet yours (Kochin reserves the right to accept / decline course admission).

Participation in such training requires all parties to be assured that they are up to the rigour, and challenge, that such a potentially transformative experience can bring. Participants are therefore advised to consider and declare any medical condition, thoughts, or state of mind that may be of relevance. Examples of such conditions might include:
a)    Depression; b)    Mental Illness; c)    Heart Conditions; d)    Epilepsy; e)    Personality disorder; f)     Or any other condition you might consider appropriate to disclose.

  1. Personal development information including recommended reading material.
Whilst it’s not a requirement, Kochin recommends that participants prepare to optimise their training experience through some pre-course reading, and or participation in an Introduction to NLP event such as those delivered by Kochin.
Like most things in life we generally have varied reading styles and preferences, so I have recommended a range of practitioner books that will appeal to different people. I have also reviewed a series of books and the ones I  particularly recommend feature on the Amazon widget located on this Kochin web page. Click here.
1)    NLP Workbook. Joseph O’Connor
2)    NLP for Dummies
3)    NLP The new Technology for Achievement. Steve Andreas
At an appropriate point in the training I may take the opportunity to offer guidance on further learning and reading material.

  1. Code of ethics and practice for NLP Practitioners
NLP is a powerful methodology and as such we require all participants to agree to be bound by the following professional code of ethics as promoted by the Association of Neuro Linguistic Programming (ANLP).
1.    Respect the dignity and worth of every human being, and their right to self-determination.
2.    Strive to act with integrity, independence and impartiality, avoiding conflicts of interests and acting in accordance with the presuppositions of NLP.
3.    Represent themselves, their qualifications, experience and membership of professional bodies honestly, and also (to the best of their knowledge) the skills, qualifications and experience of any third party to whom they refer any of their clients.
4.    Only practise NLP within the limits of your competency and to your highest possible standards; updating their skills and knowledge on a continuous basis.
5.    Represent NLP interventions as an option and at no time as a certain solution for any given problem.
6.    Act as ambassadors for NLP, so that it is presented as a professional and effective approach which can help people and organisations; avoiding bringing NLP into disrepute.
7.    Act as ambassadors for the industry, to promote its purposes and activities to a wider audience; avoiding bringing the industry into disrepute.
8.    Respect legitimate needs and requirements for confidentiality.
9.    Respect the variety of different styles of NLP and complementary professions.
10. Promote fellow practitioners interests, and avoid soliciting other practitioner’s clients away from them.
11. Ensure that clients` expectations, and the basis on which they will be met, are understood by both parties and that contractual arrangements are not changed without appropriate discussion.
12. Act within the law and not encourage, assist, or collude with others engaged in unlawful conduct.
13. Accept and commit to the benefits afforded through updating your skills and knowledge, through Mentorship and/or pursuing recognised Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements.

  1. Information on your trainer
Kochin is owned and managed by Richard Pearce. His involvement in NLP, coaching and people development started in 1994, after being introduced to NLP by staff working within Sandwell Council department for Human Resources. Employed by Sandwell Council as a development manager and attached to one of the Country’s most successful Urban Regeneration Partnerships, his task was to establish the Councils original and largest Joblink unit, a community based organisation that supports disadvantaged people to access the labour market.
It was at Joblink that Richard developed a greater understanding and realisation that human effectiveness had more to do with beliefs, values, behaviours, identity and purpose, than academic qualifications and the ability to prepare a flash CV.
15 years on, and Richard heads Kochin NLP Training and Consultancy Services.
Richards ongoing career and personal development to date includes:
Ø Strategy and policy development regarding the worklessness agenda.
Ø Design and development of innovative solutions to address worklessness.
Ø Developing and managing a successful community based Joblink model.
Ø Coaching professional, disabled and disadvantaged people.
Ø NLP training consultancy.
Ø Running an NLP Practice Group.
Ø Steven Covey Residential Development Programme
Ø CIPD Accredited Trainer Training 2003

Ø NLP Trainer Training (John Seymour Associates Ltd - Longest established NLP Training organisation in the UK - Author of numerous highly regarded NLP books)

Ø Association on NLP (ANLP) NLP Trainer registration
Ø NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner Training (SNLP)
Ø Coach Training (SNLP)
Ø Brief Solution Focused Therapy

Ø Clean Language

Ø Hypnotherapy

Ø Motivational Interviewing
Note: There are occasions where partner trainers are introduced to provide variety, add value to the learning experience, and enhance various elements of the training, including accreditation.
  1. Training / Learning styles
Kochin recognises and responds to the diversity of preferred learning styles through the delivery of a multi-sensory learning experience with plenty of hands on (experiential) learning opportunities. Expect pace to vary, lots of visuals, plenty of stories and metaphor, movement, confusion, bewilderment, awareness, surprises, witnessing of relief and emotions as people experience amazing insights, plus bucket loads of fun and laughter. And that’s before lunch.
Yes, learning NLP is a bit of a sensory roller coaster, hang on and enjoy the ride.
In some ways learning NLP is not dissimilar to any other learning experience in life where you get out, what you put in. The trainers role is one of facilitator, I can’t learn for you, and it’s here that your adoption of the values and behaviours of curiosity, fun, anticipation and accepting responsibility for your own learning, will accelerate even further, that which you are going to get from the training.

  1. Assessment methods used during training.
Assessment is integrated into and conducted throughout the programme. It’s conducted in a structured low key professional manner and provides the basis for good healthy participant feedback. Key assessment components are based upon:

1)    Observation throughout programme, ongoing assistant peer & self assessment.
2)    Completion of regular reflective learning journal (written) for which you can expect constructive feedback.
3)    Completion of practical exercises.
4)    Completion of a multiple choice questionnaire.
5)    Written assignment
6)    Incremental demonstration and integration of competencies throughout the programme.
7)    An excellent opportunity to complete a short modelling exercise and secure feedback on both its design and execution.

  1. Criteria for Kochin Certification.
Kochin Certification is based upon Industry best practice and guidelines. We are committed to ensuring that your training is enjoyable, of a high standard, and that you successfully complete your training journey, knowing your final competency levels are at least equal to, or higher that of other comparable training programmes.

It is worth noting that Kochin utilises a process of continual "sensory specific" constructive feedback for students. This method ensures all students receive "rich" feedback on their developing competencies, and where appropriate, areas for continued development. We will where / if required, provide additional guidance to ensure students address any "transitional" weakness's and in so doing can feel confident about securing certification on completion of training.
It should be pointed out that there is no “one”, universally, or even nationally recognised NLP accreditation procedure, qualification or standard within what is a self governing and unregulated industry. My personal journey to become an NLP Trainer has taken many years culminating in NLP Trainer Training and certification with John Seymour associates the longest established NLP Training company in the UK. I am also registered an an NLP trainer with the Association of NLP.

Practitioner training varies from five through to 20 days, with many parties convinced they have it right. Kochin has decided to go with 10 days, and is neither wrong, nor right to have done so. Note: Kochin reserves the right to add additional days onto the programme (at no extra cost other than your time / travel etc).
Our choice of ten days is partly based upon a desire to increase access to "quality" NLP to a wider audience than has happened to date, particularly those who might otherwise have found costs to be on the high side, yet rightly, still demand sufficient time to explore, question and understand, rather than rush through from one technique, to the next technique.
Kochin accreditation requires you to:
1)    Attend and actively participate for the full duration of the training.
a)    Should you not be able to participate for one or more days, you will be provided with the opportunity to attend the relevant module on a subsequent training event.
b)    Should something happen that inhibited your availability for three or more days, we would normally offer you the option to attend the next available full training. (We will not however accept a financial liability to do so)
2)    Attendance at the final weekend is mandatory, as this will include final assessment and may be attended by an external verifier.
3)    Demonstration of knowledge as demonstrated within a multiple choice questionnaire.
4)    Ongoing demonstration of your gradual integration of competencies throughout the programme.
5)    Completion of reflective learning journals for each weekend (excluding final) and a small "modelling" project between weekends three and five.
6)    Ongoing tutor observation of your incremental application and integration of NLP competencies, including the presuppositions of NLP introduced in weekend one.
·         The standards of these will be detailed in the performance criteria which accompanies the relevant Course Manual.
7)    Your active programme participation and supporting of fellow learners.

The Kochin certification criterion is based upon industry best practice, and we believe equivalent to, and surpasses most of the shorter courses, including many longer 20 day programmes. Participants should note that certification is based upon your ability to demonstrate the acquisition and integration of competencies. It is not an attendance certificate.

Ultimately Kochin offers two levels of certification on completion of NLP Practitioner Training. (Your post course registration with the ANLP is optional)
1)  Kochin NLP Practitioner (or Master) Certificate

2)  Kochin Provisional NLP Practitioner Certificate: Supported by detailed feedback on actions required for conversion.
  1. Post training development and re-assessment (if required)
1)    In the same manner in which Kochin commits itself to facilitating the success of its students, it remains the learner’s responsibility to prepare for effective participation in the accreditation process. Our process of ongoing evaluation and support means that all participants will be fully aware of any areas requiring development well in advance of final assessment. In the unlikely event that a participant has not "yet" reached the required standard by the end of the programme, they will be given 1:1 feedback regarding areas for continued development, and be invited back to participate in selected sessions on the following training. Reassessment will be informal. There would be no additional cost.
2)    Participation and reaching the standard required to be certified is just the beginning of your NLP journey. Embedding and developing NLP competencies is enhanced as you consciously commit to apply it to all areas of life. The multi-faceted nature means that each and every component, tool, skills, attitude, belief, technique etc. interacts with every other one. Converting theory into practice, requires practice, and the application of “there is no such thing as failure, only feedback”, which as NLP practitioners will know, is one of the NLP presuppositions.
3)    Kochin recommends that you take advantage and participate in one of the NLP practice groups that run throughout the country. You will meet other like-minded people committed to furthering their competencies. Kochin provides one such group in Walsall for NLP Practitioners. This is usually run on a monthly basis.
